Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is a chronic as well as severe condition showing continued alcohol use despite harmful conditions for health and social interactions. The Addiction World Conference drew attention to the need for practical multidisciplinary interventions directed against the widespread effects of AUD. It is characterized by increased tolerance, withdrawal, and uncontrollable cravings. It is associated with preventable health problems in the context of liver damage, cardiovascular diseases, as well as mental health conditions like anxiety and depression, among others, alongside social outcomes, such as violence and family disruption. It requires a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment regarding medical, psychological, and social interventions. New work on neurobiology and pharmacological interventions has been optimistic for positive outcomes. These are research initiatives presented at Addiction World Conference AWC 2025 aimed at enhancing research and improving clinical practices that can reduce the burden of AUD on individuals and society.
