- Title: Addiction Amongst Women The Elephant in the Room
Abstract
While global conversations around addiction have gained momentum, the reality of substance use among women remains one of the most under-recognized and misunderstood aspects of the crisis. Cultural expectations, stigma, and societal roles often cause women—especially high-functioning professionals, mothers, and caregivers—to suffer in silence. This presentation explores the complex and hidden dimensions of addiction in women, highlighting contributing factors such as trauma, mental health challenges, hormonal influences, and societal pressure. Drawing from clinical experience and lived encounters, this session will shed light on the silent epidemic of female addiction, the barriers to seeking help, and the urgent need for gender-responsive prevention, support, and recovery models. It is time to address the elephant in the room with compassion, insight, and bold conversation.
