Mental health, being an important concern of the people in the current world, the study of scientific behaviour of an individual has been proved to be developing as a multidisciplinary approach. The widely accepted biopsychosocial model approach in formulating a case has helped several people to gain insight on the management of their problems. Mobile phone, being a resource of easy communication and knowledge seems to be a barrier in the healthy development of a baby, thereby prone to deadly diseases. When the research provides evidence on the rate of death and its direct proportions to gaming among children is something that grabs an attention towards the parenting style of that child. Also, it provides the relevance of education and awareness among parents with respect to their child’s physical and mental health.
Internet high usage has been associated with the decrease in the family communication and the size of their local social circle. Adolescents satisfy their psychological needs by internet. According to Griffiths (2019), human-machine interactions in an extreme level would lead to addictions resulting in behaviour changes without chemicals (Choudhury, M & Ali A, 2020). Video games promote socialization, competition, novelty seeking and entertainment and thus it is related to basic and psychological needs involving success, independence, respect and fun. All type of addictions is a part of biopsychosocial processes. As per the study by Kaya A et al., (2023), adolescents who fulfill their basic requirements of individual and social responsibilities like studying, spending time with family, going out with friends etc. are safer from negative effects of online gaming. As per the studies reward mechanism adopted by the e-games will motivate the children to spend more time in gaming. Addiction is considered to be an escapism from everyday problems by shifting their subjective mood towards the addictive behavior (Griffiths, M D, 2005; Kuss, D J, 2013).
The session shall include the brief discussions on the theoretical models conceptualizing the relationship between mental health and online addiction, discussing the empirical studies that addresses the social factors precipitating the vulnerable conditions.
